Substitute Feathers - Silver Pheasant
These substitutes were created to make it easier to start tying classic salmon flies. You can replace the more expensive materials such as the Bustards with these substitutes without compromising the look of the fly. This comes handy in especially when taking a part in many of the fly tying competitions. You do not need the CITES document but your flies still lok great.
These substitutes marry well and offer very good fiber length. You are able to tye as big as from #6/0 to #8/0 flies using the substitutes. They also have the same texture as the other materials in married or mixed wings and thus make the wing mounting easier. These substitutes work in fishing flies too– the dye wont wash away.
Original Silver Pheasant tail is very hard to get classic salmon fly material. Silver Pheasant was used in some of the eldest salmon flies such as William Blacker’s patterns. These substitutes will make it possible to tye these handsome flies again.
